The XR Innovation Forum pilot will shut down and go offline on 18 June. All user data (posts, account details, statistics, etc) will be deleted within 2 weeks after the end date automatically.
The XR Innovation Forum has been running as a pilot since February 2024, with an initial period of one year. The goal was to provide and evaluate an online meeting space to discuss use of XR in education and research within the SURF community, in the broadest sense. Plus, it provided a place for the SURF XR Developer network to interact.
Although the XRIF is working well as an online forum, and has gathered user posts on a variety of XR topics, the amount of visitors and activity unfortunately is not high enough to transition from pilot phase to actual service. This decision is based on both utility and cost of running the forum.
Alternatives where you can stay informed and/or discuss XR for education and research in the Netherlands are:
- The SURF XR Developer network, which has a focus on XR development and more technical topics
- The NPuls XR community, on all activities within Npuls and use of XR in education
- The SIG Virtuality on communities.surf.nl
