House Rules

(zie hier voor de Nederlandse versie van deze tekst)

We invite you to contribute to this place of discussion and knowledge. We ask that you abide by these house rules. This will ensure that the SURF XR Innovation Forum (XRIF) is a pleasant and inspiring place for everyone.

Help each other

A community lives by the interaction between its members. Start a question of discussion topic, reply to existing posts, seek each other out! By sharing knowledge and interacting, we can move forward together.

Fill in your profile

The SURF XRIF connects education, research and IT professionals at the SURF members institutes working on (or interested in) eXtended Reality. To help others understand your role, affiliation, skills and/or interests please fill in and publish your public profile in 2 simple steps:

  1. Go to your Profile page and fill in the information you would like to share about yourself;
  2. Your profile is hidden by default, so make it visible to others by switching to the Interface page, uncheck the Hide my public profile and presence features option and click the Save Changes button at the bottom

Improve the discussion

Please treat this discussion forum with the same respect you would a public park. We, too, are a shared community resource — a place to share skills, knowledge and interests through ongoing conversation.

The topics discussed here matter to us, and we want you to act as if they matter to you, too. Be respectful of the topics and the people discussing them, even if you disagree with some of what is being said.
Help us make this a great place for discussion by always adding something positive to the discussion, however small. If you are not sure your post adds to the conversation, think over what you want to say and try again later.

One way to improve the discussion is by discovering ones that are already happening. Spend time browsing the topics here before replying or starting your own, and you’ll have a better chance of meeting others who share your interests.

Treat each other with respect

Healthy discussion fits on this platform, but do so in a friendly tone and with the aim of moving forward together. You may wish to respond by disagreeing. That’s fine. But remember to criticize ideas, not people.

Please avoid:

Instead, provide thoughtful insights that improve the conversation.

This is a public forum, and search engines index these discussions. So everything you say here is readable and findable publicly on the Internet. So don’t post offensive messages or images, respect intellectual property and be careful with other people’s personal data and privacy.

No promotions and spam

On the SURF XR Innovation Forum we share factual information or (reasoned) opinions about IT innovation in education and research related to XR. Product promotion, advertising, spam and irrelevant links are not allowed. Also see the Terms of Use.

Good to know

Contributions to the SURF XR Innovation Forum are moderated by SURF in a best-effort manner. This includes checking posts against these house rules and the XRIF Terms of Use. SURF reserves the right to stop discussions, or remove contributions which are (suspected of being) in violation of these rules.

Do you have questions about the house rules or Terms of Use, please send an e-mail to xr@surf.nl.

If You See a Problem, Flag It

Moderators have special authority; they are responsible for this forum. But so are you. With your help, moderators can be community facilitators, not just janitors or police.

When you see bad behavior, don’t reply. Replying encourages bad behavior by acknowledging it, consumes your energy, and wastes everyone’s time. Just flag it using the Flag button at the bottom of each post. If enough flags accrue, action will be taken, either automatically or by moderator intervention.

In order to maintain our community, moderators reserve the right to remove any content and any user account for any reason at any time. Moderators do not preview new posts; the moderators and site operators take no responsibility for any content posted by the community.

Keep It Tidy

Make the effort to put things in the right place, so that we can spend more time discussing and less cleaning up. So:

Rather than posting “+1” or “Agreed”, use the Like button. Rather than taking an existing topic in a radically different direction, use Reply as a Linked Topic.

Terms of Use

We have Terms of Use describing your (and our) behavior and rights related to content, privacy, and laws. To use this platform, you must agree to abide by these Terms of Use.
